Good News, Bad News, NZW Kit Weights at 6 Weeks, 9 Weeks, and 13 Weeks Old

First the bad news.  We lost one of Piper’s kits. There is no obvious cause. Usually that means an intestinal blockage.  I guess she is just not fated to have more than 6 kits make it per litter.  The good news is that the little runt has made it up to 3.1 ounces and is really starting to look good. The kits are starting to open up their eyes, but not the little runt. Not yet. Piper has about had it with the force nursing. Today she was biting at my son’s shirt as he held her. We will drop down to once a day tomorrow and continue to weigh once a day to make sure the kit continues feeding.

It was weigh in day for all of the older kits.

I went to the doctor today and he wants to wait a week on antibiotics since there are some very prolonged viruses going around right now, but he did give me the good cough syrup with hydrocodone in it, which is all I really wanted, so I should sleep well tonight. No bronchitis, my lungs were very clear, so that is one worry off my list. Blood pressure was quite high though. On Monday at the sleep doctor it was 118/78, so not sure why it was up so much higher today at 128/88. Maybe because I got in so soon after driving in crazy traffic. I waited like two minutes to go in the back and then 5 minutes later the nurse came in to take BP, temp, and pulse. So it was possible I wasn’t calm after the drive. I don’t get white coat syndrome. Hopefully it is just a fluke.

  1. Not to digress into a medical discussion too much, but I’ve come across several people recently who have been taking Ibuprofen for different reasons and experience severe spikes in blood pressure. Just an observation in case you were taking IB for fever or aches and pains.
